EVENT RECAP: CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH WITH COMMUNITY

In February, Cute Story Events worked with local businesses and neighbors to celebrate the first Black History Month in Fircrest. By sharing stories, fostering dialogue, and celebrating cultural diversity, guests reflected on a memorable and impactful moment for the community.

Spotlighting local Black-owned businesses through tabling and food service was a powerful way to uplift the community and celebrate diversity. By showcasing these businesses, we not only support their growth but also contribute to the empowerment of the Black community.

Neighbors came together to support these businesses, not just as customers but as advocates for economic empowerment. Through this initiative, we can contribute to a thriving ecosystem where everyone has a seat at the table.

Community leaders played a crucial role in sharing insights and fostering inspiring dialogues during the event. Their guidance created a platform for meaningful discussions about entrepreneurship, culture, and overcoming challenges.

Speakers included Willie Stewart, Washington’s first Black school principal, Nikki Bufford, Fircrest Deputy Mayor, Senator T’wina Nobles and Fircrest Mayor, Shannon Reynolds.

The event also provided opportunities for individuals to contribute to a community art installation which added another layer of connection and celebration. Through art, we can express our shared values, experiences, and aspirations while honoring the rich tapestry of Black history.

Children play a huge role in our community, and we wanted to include them in this important event. We set up a fun activity station for kids to learn, socialize and participate. The kids had a great time recreating Black art with LEGOs, reading books and coloring parts of the art installation.

These events serve as a reminder of the importance of coming together as neighbors to connect, learn from one another, and celebrate diversity. By shining a spotlight on local Black-owned businesses and engaging in empowering activities, we can create lasting bonds within our community while honoring Black History throughout the year.

Let's amplify voices that deserve to be heard and create spaces where everyone feels seen and valued. This takes more than just tabling and food service; it's about building bridges, fostering understanding, and shaping a future where every member of our community can thrive.
